Playstation 3 (PS3)

Playstation 3 (PS3) is the third video game console produced by Sony Computer Entertainment.

Playstation 3 competes with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles.

Major features: online gaming service, The Playstation Network, robost multimedia capabilities and connectivity with the PSP (Playstation Portable).
PS3 also includes wireless controllers.

November 11, 2006 in Japan

Playstation 2

The Playstation 2 came out March 4th, 2000 in Japan, October 26, 2000 In North America and November 24th in Europe.

Soon after its release, it was hard to find PS2 units on retailer shelves because of manufacturing delays.

Many people took another option and decided to buy the PS2 off of websites such as eBay, where they payed over one thousand dollars just to achieve this game.

Because of the success of the Playstion (original) the Playstation 2 also had a huge amount of success and sold over 980,000 units in Japan by Mach 5th 2000.

Grand Theft Auto:San Andreas was popular to the public around the world and sold 17.33 million (as of Feb. 2009) This also made people want to buy the Playstation 2.

Play Station Time Line

1988- The start of the Playstation era. Sony embarked on a deal with Nintendo to develop a CD-ROM drive for the Super NES. Using the same Super Disc technology as the proposed SNES drive, Sony began development on what was to eventually become the PlayStation. (Initially called the Super Disc)

1991- The commercial release of the multimedia machine in the form of Philips' CD-I, which had been developed by both Philips and Sony until mounting conflicts resulted in the two company parting ways.

1991- The Playstation was announced officially by Sony. Instead of working with Sony, as origionally planned, Nintendo is instead working with Philips.

1992-The software licensing for the proposed 32-bit machines was awarded to Nintendo, with Sony receiving only minimal licensing royalties. The first Play Station never made it out of the factories. Apparently, about 200 were produced, and some software even made it to development.

1993- Sony revealed the PS-X, or PlayStation-X. (solely released in japan)

1994- On December 3, 1994, the PlayStation was finally released in Japan, one week after the Sega Saturn. Initial Cost: $387

1995- By mid-1995, Sony had set its sights firmly on the United States

1995- United State's first real look at the PlayStation.

1995- The PlayStation launched in the United States on September 9, 1995 to instant success. Over 100,000 units were already presold at launch, and 17 games were available.

1994- The playstation is a 32-bit fifth-generation video game console released by Sony Computer Entertainment in Japan.

1999 - The Playstation 2, or the PS2, is a video game console that is successor of the Playstation and predecessor of the Playstation 3.

2000- Playstation 2 is a Sony’s super-popular console video game center that was

released in Japan on March 4, 2000.

2002- The video game market became very competitive. on May 14, 2002 Sony lowered the price of the PlayStation 2 by one-third the price to $199.

2004 - As of May 18, 2004, Sony shipped 100 million PlayStation consoles throughout the whole world.

2008 - On July 28, 2008, the PlayStation 3 was introduced. The system was only on the market for 10 months and sold at least 500000 copies, meeting the Greatest Hits criteria.

2010- On December 17, 2010 The official Iphone app for PlayStation was released.
